Blair Underwood is set to join the medical drama Doc in a major new role as the series continues to expand its cast. The show, which recently secured a Season 3 renewal from Fox, will introduce Underwood’s character in the upcoming Season 2 finale before bringing him on board as a full-time series regular next season.
Underwood will first appear in the Season 2 finale airing April 14, where he will debut as Dr. Ben Grant, an elite trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon known for both his extraordinary skill and commanding personality. His arrival at Westside Hospital is expected to shake things up—especially when he crosses paths with Dr. Amy Larsen, portrayed by Molly Parker. Grant’s bold confidence and reputation as one of the best surgeons in the field quickly put him on a collision course with Larsen, setting the stage for intense professional rivalry and undeniable chemistry.
Season 2 of the series features an ensemble cast that includes Omar Metwally, Amirah Vann, Jon Ecker, Anya Banerjee, Patrick Walker, Charlotte Fountain-Jardim, and Felicity Huffman, with Scott Wolf appearing in a recurring role.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television in collaboration with Fox Entertainment, the drama is inspired by the Italian series Doc – Nelle tue mani. The story follows Dr. Amy Larsen as she rebuilds her career and personal life after a devastating car accident erases eight years of her memory.
The series is led by co-showrunners Barbie Kligman and Hank Steinberg, who also serve as executive producers alongside Erwin Stoff, Russell Fine, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Carol Barbee, and David Foster. With Underwood joining the cast, the upcoming season promises even more tension and high-stakes drama inside the operating room.
