Set within the intimate corners of a cozy bookstore, Capriccio follows two strangers whose chance encounter blossoms into an enchanting, non-verbal exchange powered by melody and dance. As their silent dialogue unfolds, the film transports audiences into a world where rhythm replaces words. Vaughan and Louder give magnetic performances that rely on physicality and musical expression. The result is a poignant, modern love story that reminds viewers that profound connection can emerge at any moment. With minimal dialogue and unconventional narration, director Kiah Clingman crafts a visually poetic experience that centers joy, tenderness, and emotional intimacy.
“I was really interested in what happens when you stop relying on dialogue and let rhythm, movement, and energy carry the story. The goal was to fully transport the audience into that feeling. And because we so rarely see Black musicals, especially in the indie short space, it felt like an opportunity to create something that shows up for that audience.” said Director Kiah Clingman.
Behind the camera, Director of Photography, Clifford Johnson brings a lush visual texture to the f ilm’s intimate setting, while producers Kenisha Johnson and Rocky Mohammed anchor the project with a commitment to nuanced storytelling and artistic integrity. The Atlanta Film Festival selection marks a significant milestone for the filmmaking team. Known for championing bold and innovative voices, the festival provides an ideal stage for Capriccio’s premiere, where it is poised to resonate deeply with audiences seeking romance that feels both timeless and contemporary.
