Danielle Brooks To Star In Melba Wilson-Inspired Comedy ‘American Comfort’ From Kenya Barris And Oprah Winfrey For Apple TV
Order up! Danielle Brooks is gearing up to serve in a new comedy ‘American Comfort’ (working title), currently in the works at Apple TV. The project is based on the life of Harlem native, James Beard Award-nominated chef, and restaurateur, Melba Wilson.
Set in Harlem, the project centers on the warm hospitality that turned Wilson’s eatery, Melba’s, into a soul food cultural staple deeply loved by the community for over 20 years. Brooks will star as the legendary restaurateur.
‘American Comfort’ is written by Kenya Barris, who executive produces alongside Leyah Barris for Khalabo Ink Society. Also serving as executive producers are Danielle Brooks and Melba Wilson, alongside Oprah Winfrey and Carla Gardini for Harpo Productions, and Aaron Kaplan for Kapital Entertainment. Kapital’s Jaiden Kaplan and Dylan Hammalian will co-executive produce. Rounding out the executive producing team are Jill McGrath for Door 24, Lauren Tuck for Harpo, and Aisha Summers-Burke for BET Studios. Neema Barnette, who originally brought the project in with Wilson, executive produces for Harlem Girl Productions.
