As the first Black-led anthology thriller web series shot entirely on DePaul’s Cinespace campus, Drapetomania is a student-led production bringing bold, thought-provoking Black stories to the screen. In collaboration with DePaul’s School of Cinematic Arts, Black Media Arts Club, & The Theatre School, the series creates opportunities for emerging filmmakers and actors while fostering cross-departmental collaboration. Through suspense-driven storytelling rooted in meaningful social and cultural themes, Drapetomania is building a legacy for the next generation of Black creatives.
What begins as a spontaneous road trip between siblings takes a sinister turn in Push It, the pilot episode of Drapetomania. When Imani and Sean find themselves trapped in a motel where time seems distorted and memories begin to slip away, they must confront their fears of growing apart. Blending psychological horror, dark comedy, and social commentary, Push It explores familial relationships, the realities of traveling while Black, and the bittersweet transition from childhood innocence to adulthood.
