Taraji P. Henson stars in the upcoming drama ‘Give Me Some Sugah’ as Lenore Lindsey, a South Shore Chicago bakery owner whose life is forever changed by a life-altering revelation. Inspired by the viral story of a Chicago baker who unexpectedly reunited in 2022 with the long-lost son she placed for adoption decades earlier, the film explores second chances, generational healing, and unexpected family reconciliations.
Henson leads an ensemble cast that includes Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott (aka Joey Bada$$) alongside Semaj Prather as Mayson, Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as Angie, Russell Hornsby as Robert, Alexis Louder as Megan, Arischa Conner as Vera, Angela Davis as Yvette, Caroline Avery Granger as Gabriella, director Tasha Smith as Toni, and producer DeVon Franklin as Eric.
The project marks the second feature born from Perry and Franklin’s multi-year faith-based creative partnership with Netflix. It follows their hit debut ‘Ruth & Boaz,’ which went on to rank No. 2 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies list.
Tasha Smith (BMF, Mayor of Kingstown) directs from a script by Randy Brown (Miracles from Heaven). DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry produce, with Tony Strickland and Angi Bones serving as executive producers for Tyler Perry Studios, alongside Bart Lipton.
‘Give Me Some Sugah’ filmed on location in Atlanta and is set to premiere globally Dec. 16 on Netflix.
