Created by Rae and written and co-created by Mike Gauyo, the project revisits the themes of identity, masculinity and sexuality introduced in Rae’s original 2016 narrative podcast, this time through the high-stakes world of college football.
The story follows Marc St. James, a star running back whose carefully protected private life is threatened when a leaked audio recording exposes his relationship with his boyfriend. As the revelation threatens his reputation and future, Marc must navigate the intense expectations of college athletics and a culture built around traditional ideas of masculinity.
The voice cast includes Siddiq Saunderson, Amin Joseph, Cassandra Freeman and Jonica Booth, alongside Yutopia Essex, Justen Ross, Kendall Kyndall, Mike Merrill, Gail Bean and Jessie Woo.
Gauyo, known for his work on Insecure and Claws, leads the writing and creative direction, bringing a new perspective to Rae’s original concept.
Running approximately 3 hours and 52 minutes, Fruit: The Cost of Legacy is now available exclusively on Audible.
