Welcome back to Derry! Season 2 of the hit series ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ has been officially confirmed by HBO. The show premiered in October 2025 and is based on acclaimed author Stephen King’s 1986 novel ‘It,’ serving as a prequel to the feature films ‘It’ (2017) and ‘It Chapter Two’ (2019).
Starring Jovan Adepo, Amanda Christine, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and more, Season 1 is set in 1962 in the fictional town of Derry, Maine, and chronicles the residents’ run-ins with the evil clown Pennywise, played by Bill Skarsgård.
Now, the upcoming Season 2 moves back in time to 1935 during the Great Depression. According to the official logline, the new season “centers on the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammo and end up facing unimaginable horror.”
Produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television, ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ was created by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, who served as co-showrunner with Brad Caleb Kane for Season 1. Kane returns for Season 2 as the sole showrunner, with the Muschiettis executive producing under their Double Dream banner. Kane, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jamie Travis, and Dhana Gilbert also serve as executive producers.
Sarah Aubrey, Head of HBO Max Original Programming, said of the renewal: “We are excited to return to the chilling world of Derry and to further expand on Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s horrifically iconic adaptation. Together with Brad Caleb Kane, they will break new ground in season two, deepening the terror, the mystery, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore that fans love to devour.”
Production timelines and additional release details are expected to be announced at a later date.
