Jean Elie And Spencer Jamison Set To Star In Caroline Renard’s Short Romance Drama ‘If There’s No Forever’
Acclaimed actor Jean Elie (Wonder Man, Send Help, Insecure) and 2025 Women in Film (WIF) Writer fellow Spencer Jamison are set to star in a new romance drama, ‘If There’s No Forever,’ from Micheaux Film Festival-winning writer-director Caroline Renard. Inspired by a real-life event, the short centers on the emotional turmoil that ensues after a woman (Jamison) turns down a marriage proposal from her partner (Elie), forcing them to grapple with whether to stay together or part ways.
Renard originally shared the film’s origin with Deadline, noting it was inspired by a college friend whom everyone expected to marry because they were viewed as the “perfect Black couple.”
“She thought she was going to say yes, but then he got down on one knee and... realized [that this wasn’t something she wanted],” Renard said. “So, I explored what happens afterwards... When you get back to the apartment you share, and you’re like, ‘So, now what?’ I really wanted to do a character-driven, romantic drama starring a Black couple and the back and forth of that conversation.”
The film will be produced by Lanaria Johnson and Clara Yoon, serving as a proof-of-concept for a feature film. Production will begin in July, with the short expected to debut on the film festival circuit later this year.
