Golden Globe nominee John David Washington is set to star in and produce ‘Mime,’ an upcoming supernatural horror film from Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning director Nikyatu Jusu. Sony Screen Gems acquired the project following a competitive bidding war with Amazon and Searchlight.
While official plot details remain under wraps, there are reports the story is set in a New York City apartment complex during a heatwave blackout.
Stephen Herman wrote the screenplay based on his original idea. Washington produces alongside Matt Tolmach and Camila Grove. Scott Derrickson also produces under his Crooked Highway banner.
‘Mime’ is currently in active development, with production expected to begin next spring. Additional casting and release details will be announced at a later date.
