Academy Award-nominated actor Delroy Lindo was honored by the City of Oakland on May 6, 2026, receiving the Key to the City from Mayor Barbara Lee during the “Rooted in Legacy” event at Oakland City Hall. The celebration recognized both his acclaimed performance in ‘Sinners’ and his legacy as one of Oakland’s most celebrated artists.
In honor of his extraordinary career and continued representation of the city, Oakland also officially declared May 6 as “Delroy Lindo Day.”

As a longtime Bay Area resident who studied at San Francisco State University, Lindo received tributes from his son, Damiri Lindo, Oakland native Ryan Coogler, and legendary actor Mykelti Williamson. He was also presented with a custom Golden State Warriors jersey during the ceremony.
Reflecting on the honor, Lindo shared, “I’m so humbled that [Mayor Lee] has opened up her chambers to allow for an event that honors me. But it’s also honoring the city of Oakland. This is a city that is so dynamic, [with] so many incredibly talented people—a lot of them are here today. As a resident of Oakland, California and as somebody who is so pleased, humbled, and honored to have Mayor Barbara Lee as our mayor, I am really thrilled to be here and representing the wonderful city of Oakland.”
From all of us at TheBlkScript, congratulations to Delroy Lindo on this well-deserved honor!
