It’s official! Antoine Fuqua’s ‘Michael’ biopic has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, becoming the first biographical film in history to achieve this benchmark.
The film’s official Instagram page celebrated the victory, saying, “To every fan who bought a ticket, sang along, dressed up, and returned to the big screen again and again: thank you. This milestone belongs to you.” Star Nia Long, who portrays Katherine Jackson in the movie, followed the sentiment, saying, “My heart is bursting with gratitude. Thank you.”
Director Fuqua added, “Reaching this extraordinary $1 billion milestone with ‘Michael’ is a deeply humbling moment that celebrates the tireless dedication of our incredible producers, cast, crew, and partners. This achievement belongs to everyone who came together with a shared vision to honor one of the greatest artists the world has ever known.
I am profoundly grateful to the audiences around the globe who embraced this film, showed up in theaters, and connected with this story across generations and cultures.”
With this monumental success, it becomes Lionsgate’s first movie to ever reach $1 billion.
