Quinta Brunson is stepping into a new project that will bring one of animation’s most recognizable characters back to the big screen. The Emmy-winning creator is developing and starring in a feature adaptation centered around Betty Boop, marking the character’s first leading theatrical film role in decades.
Brunson’s production company, Fifth Chance Productions, is partnering with Mark Fleischer and Fleischer Studios to develop the project. Rather than offering a traditional retelling, the film is expected to explore the creation of Betty Boop through the eyes of her creator, Max Fleischer, while examining the balance between artistic vision and commercial success.
The story will also dive into the evolving bond between the legendary animator and the character who eventually became one of the earliest global cartoon sensations. Created in 1930, Betty Boop rose from the studio’s early animated shorts and became a defining figure of the Jazz Age era.
Brunson shared that after learning more about Betty Boop’s history, she saw an opportunity to tell a deeper and more meaningful story that still captures the humor, energy, and timeless spirit associated with the iconic character.
The project arrives as Brunson continues her successful run with Abbott Elementary, which has helped establish her as one of television’s most influential creative voices. Now, she appears ready to reintroduce a classic icon to a modern audience through a fresh cinematic lens.
