Two-time Academy Award-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter continues her historic run. She recently expanded her celebrated body of work by receiving an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Woodbury University—marking her fourth honorary doctoral degree.
Taking to Instagram on May 18 to reflect on the honor, Carter shared how deeply the recognition resonated with her journey: “As a young woman, I dreamt of becoming an artist of the highest caliber. Thank you to Woodbury University for seeing that vision,” she wrote. “By honoring me, you are honoring Afrofuturism, the science and art of costume design, and the culture.”
