Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, And Sev Ohanian To Executive Produce ‘Animorphs’ TV Series For Disney+
The popular ’90s sci-fi book series ‘Animorphs’ is being adapted into a TV series for Disney+, with Proximity Media’s Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian set to executive produce.
The 1996 literary series, created by Katherine Applegate and Michael Grant, centers on a group of teenagers—Jake, Marco, Cassie, Rachel, and Tobias—who uncover a secret alien invasion by the parasitic Yeerks. After a chance encounter with a dying Andalite alien already at war with the Yeerks, they gain the ability to morph into any animal they touch. With this power, the teens form a covert resistance to fight back and protect Earth, later joined by Ax, a young Andalite stranded on the planet.

The series will follow a similar premise, with the official logline reading: “‘Animorphs’ follows a group of teenagers who uncover a hidden threat lurking beneath their everyday lives, all while juggling relationships, curfews, and the chaos of high school.”
Bayan Wolcott is attached to write the adaptation and will executive produce alongside Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Ohanian for Proximity Media. Additional executive producers include Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman for Scholastic. Proximity Media’s Simone Harris, vice president and head of TV, and Dezi Gallegos, director of TV development, will oversee the project.
‘Animorphs’ is currently in early development at Disney+.
