After raising over $207,000 for its first season, creator Cheyenne Ewulu is bringing the award-winning indie comedy back with a new crowdfunding campaign that brings the show’s storyline into the real world.
The Comic Shop digital comedy is gearing up for Season 2. Creator, writer, and star Cheyenne Ewulu announced at LA Comic Con that the independent workplace mockumentary will return to Kickstarter to fund its second season, following the success of its first campaign, which raised more than $207,000 from 1,795 backers.
This time, the campaign is taking a page directly from the show’s storyline.
Season 1 (currently streaming on Youtube) ended with the future of the fictional comic book store OhEmGee! Comics hanging in the balance after a local dispensary franchise owner revealed plans to take over the store and turn it into a dispensary. Now, the fictional fight to save OhEmGee! is becoming a real-world campaign.
Through #SaveTheComicShop, fans will see the show’s characters rally to save their beloved comic book store through in-character videos, social media content, and other interactive experiences, all while encouraging audiences to help fund the show’s next season.
Created by Nigerian-American actress, writer, and producer Cheyenne Ewulu, The Comic Shop follows four friends determined to keep their struggling comic book store in business by any ridiculous means necessary. Currently streaming on the Awkward Virgo TV Youtube Channel.
The series first gained attention in 2023 when its proof-of-concept trailer went viral on social media. Its first-season Kickstarter went on to surpass its $160,000 goal. Since then, the series has continued to gain recognition, including winning Best Episodic at the 2026 American Black Film Festival.
“I’m excited to continue this journey of creating independent art,” said Ewulu. “Our audience has been incredibly patient as we figured out how we wanted to continue telling this story, and now we’re finally on our way.”
With Season 2, Ewulu and her team are looking to build on the world introduced in the first season, bringing back familiar faces, and showcase new ones while expanding the story a little bit beyond the walls of OhEmGee! Comics.
Fans can follow the Kickstarter pre-launch campaign and join the effort to save The Comic Shop at SaveTheComicShop.com.
